What Car Seat to Buy?

growing baby newborn infant toddler child safety car seats

This was the question a friend posted to her Facebook page recently. What car seat should I buy? What do you have and why do you like it? She was overwhelmed with all the choices. She just wanted a safe, easy install car seat that could grow with her son.

Her friends responded enthusiastically with recommendations. All the name brands were mentioned; Britax, Evenflo, and Graco. Each one had good things to say about their experiences. They also had some very practical advice. One said be sure to get one with cup holders. As kids get older they are going to have sippy cups in the car, and those cups have to go somewhere. Another said she moves her child’s seat to different vehicles and a quick install feature is really nice. Another said be sure to check the rear-facing weight limits as she had wanted to keep her child rear-facing for as long as possible without buying multiple seats. And yet another reminded her to also check the forward-facing weight limits and features for the future. All very good advice.

Car seats sold in America are required to meet strict government safety requirements and pass standard crash tests. Read more about this on our Car Seat Guide page. Once safety has been established, personal preference takes over. It has been said by many that the best car seat is the one that works best for you and your child; one that installs securely, is easy to use, fits your child, and you use it! Look through the car seats shown on our Car Seat Comparison page. Select any one to see more details and hands-on consumer reviews. Learn, compare, and decide. Order one and have it delivered to your door!
